THE CAT GAME PLAN

QUESTION: How do some people, and the companies they work for, consistently outperform common expectations and raise the bar so high that others are left having to play catch up or just quit in frustration?
This was a question that, gymnastics center owner and occasional runner Mark Gibson, had to ask himself several years ago. A nagging curiosity was challenging him. He wanted to know if he could run, straight through, 100 miles from Key Largo to Key West. He'd pulled off a few outrageous challenges before but this one was going to require a quantum shift in his thinking, self-image and lifestyle habits.
So how'd he do that?He made it simple! Not easy. Just simple.
A couple of decades coaching aspiring Olympic gymnasts had taught him that it was rarely the most talented who survived the grueling process of taking on tough challenges. In fact, more often than not, it was the highly talented ones who quit first when things got tough and they could no longer rely on talent alone. The hard core champions of "making stuff happen" were those with just enough talent to be in the game plus a critical cocktail of three indispensable qualities:
So Mark set about creating a program to develop these three key qualities in himself. Through extensive research, dozens of interviews and countless tweaks he had his game plan. THE CAT GAME PLAN. Did he succeed? Yep! He limped across the finish line in just under 29 hours. He has since used the same CAT mindshift to run 276 miles across Pennsylvania, and most recently ride a skateboard 600 almost miles from Washington DC to Ottawa, Canada. So what's the ROI for you?

About Mark's speaking styleMark Has inspired audiences in 38 states over the last 20 years.
He has led everything from intimate workshops with small groups of key people to major keynotes to a large audiences. His largest was over five thousand. His style is a mixture of entertainment, audience involvement and inspiration. Entertaining (so they'll be engaged)
Mark is a master story teller. He believes in putting his own advise into action and shares with his audience all the ups and downs of going after his own outrageous goals. There was the impromptu gymnastics class he taught to a crowd of Nepalese kids in the Himalayas. Or the struggle of pushing a heavy loaded touring bicycle 5000 miles around Europe. Or the disastrous outcome of diving off a ten meter platform to impress a girl at the age of fourteen. (We've all been there.) Audience Involvement (so they'll remember) Before entering the corporate world Mark learned the craft of speaking from inspiring teenage athletes. He quickly discovered that he has a lot more fun when his audience is having a lot more fun. He has been known to give phone book tearing lessons, stage hilarious flexibility contests and stump his audience with frustrating bar bets. Inspiration (so they'll take action) All the entertaining and audience involvement is for nothing if they don't leave with mind full of take away ideas that they can start putting into action before they even leave the room. Rather than temporarily motivate a reluctant crowd into briefly flirting with a "better attitude" Mark aims to create a true mind-shift moment that has a lasting effect. |
